How It Works

What do you need for Irish Broadband Talk?

  1. An Irish Broadband Breeze* connection
  2. Choose your Talk package
  3. Choose either an ATA (Analogue Terminal Adaptor) and a normal hand-set or the new Siemens cordless phone ( For similtaneous use with your PC  a standard ethernet router is required)

How does it work?
Our Talk service works using a technology known as “Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)”.  This technology allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (analogue) phone line.

Number Porting
As part of the Irish Broadband Talk service we provide you with a geographic telephone number (e.g. 01, 021 etc).  Number porting, which will allow you to move your existing telephone number to your Talk service, will be available shortly.  We will keep all our customers informed of this development.

Emergency services
All calls made using Irish Broadband Talk are dependent on your broadband connection. So while Emergency calls to 112 and 999 will be directed to the emergency services no guarantee can be made about the reliability of these calls.  It is advised that you have access to an alternative form of service e.g. a mobile phone with adequate battery and signal, as a way to contact the emergency services, in case of failure of your Talk service. Also, due to the nature of VoIP, the emergency services will not be able to determine your exact location from your telephone number, therefore you must inform the emergency services operator of your exact location.

*To avail of our ‘Talk’ service, you will need our Breeze Broadband service (€55 p/mth). Irish Broadband Talk is not currently available on our Ripwave broadband service. Terms & Conditions apply.
